Paper Plate Puppets

I taught the Drama Academy kids to make Paper Plate Puppets and somehow they all ended up making Angry Bird Puppets!

What is it with angry birds?? Seems like every kid in Hong Kong is in love with them!

Speech Festival 2011

I have good news to announce! After 2 months of dedicated training, our P.3 boys Adrian Chung and Justin Lam competed in the Solo Prose Reading Competition last weekend and received excellent results!

The competition was tough as they had to compete against P.4 students too. Adrian received the Merit award and Justin came 2nd place with Honours! Well done boys!!

Also a BIG Congratulations to Joshua Chang who is now the Champion two years in a row! What amazing talent, keep it up Joshua!!

The Speech Festival is a wonderful experience for students. Even if your son is not chosen by the school to enter, I still encourage parents to submit applications for your child independently. The confidence they gain in the process of preparing for competition is most evident. The comments given by the adjudicator is also useful and valuable to their English learning.

Congratulations boys! You've done the school, your parents and me proud!

Now enjoy your recess and before school time as there will be nomore speech training this year! :)

Charlie & Lola's Best Bestest Play

Based on the characters created by Lauren Child, the hit ABC television series "Charlie and Lola" has been adapted into an early theatre experience for children. The show has finally come to Hong Kong so if you have kids, don't miss the chance to bring them to see "Charlie and Lola's Best Bestest Play"!



The entire show was created around two simple but cleverly designed 2D cardboard puppets operated by puppeteers. The puppeteers were not dressed in all black to blend in with the background but were actually part of the performance with sound and expression relating to the story and characters. They managed to re-create the cartoon "Charlie & Lola" using these cardboard puppets and brought them to life with moving eyes, head, arms and legs. The story was very funny and relatable to both kids and adults. With the use of cute and clever props and a creative stage set, the show was truly magical from beginning to end.

 

 

I took my Drama Academy kids to the HKAPA to see "Charlie & Lola's Best Bestest Play" yesterday. The experience was mesmerizing and they could not stop talking about Charlie and Lola after we came out of the theatre. The show has really inspired their imagination and I can't wait to incorporate some of the theatrical ideas into our puppet show workshops next week!
