Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid - Autumn Festival is a celebration of abundance and togetherness. The Chinese believe in praying to the moon god for protection, family unity and good fortune. The festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar. On this day the moon is brighter, clearer and rounder than usual.

Mooncakes are eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Traditional mooncakes are round or rectangular pastries filled with a thick lotus paste. Some may contain the yolk of salted duck eggs too. Nowadays, mooncakes come in all shapes and sizes. They can also be made from different pastries and with different flavoured fillings inside.

People will also decorate their homes with beautiful lanterns. Children will play with the lanterns at night time. The traditional lanterns are made of paper and lit by a candle. Nowadays, lanterns come in all shapes, sizes and designs. Many are operated by batteries.

The traditional rabbit lantern is my favourite!

If you want to learn more about the Mid-Autumn Festival, you can go to this website. There are many interesting facts, poems and stories to read. There is also a lantern craft section as well as some online GAMES to play! Have fun kids! I wish you and your family a very HAPPY MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL!

Inspector Gadget Has the Right Ideas

P.2 NET Program

Lessons have begun for P.2 students already. Thank-you for the warm welcome kids! I look forward to a year of fun learning with you boys.

The focus in the first term is reading, spelling and vocabulary building. Students will be introduced to various elements of the English language including things like prefixes, suffixes, homophones, synonyms, antonyms, long vowel sounds and special spelling rules.

The focus in term 2 is reading and writing different text types. Students will be introduced to specific elements of particular text types which are visible to them on a daily basis e.g. advertisement posters, signs, letters, postcards, recipes, procedural texts, invitations etc. The main aim is to teach students to decode and read these text types.

Good job with the NET folder cover design!

Make your own Comic Strip!

Hi kids! I know many of you love reading comics but did you ever think about creating your own comic? Click on the link below and you'll be taken to a site that allows you to create your own comic strips online.

The site is really easy to use and loads of fun! You can choose from 20 pre-designed characters, 25 objects, speech bubbles, thinking bubbles and narration boxes to create your comic. You can adjust the colour of the background and layout of the comic too!

This is a comic that I created using the site. See Miss Jessi's comic.

Enjoy and remember to show me your comic creations!

THOMAS of 3B

"I'm feeling happy to be back. I had a really happy holiday."

BOYS of 2C

"It's very HOT! But we're happy to be back."

ANDREW of 3D

"I'm happy but also sad that the holidays are over, so half happy half sad. I like my new tie though!"

KA LOK of 3D

"I'm happy Miss Jessi because I can see my teachers and classmates again. I want to improve my Chinese this year."

AMBROSE of 3D

"One word - HAPPY!"

TWIN BROTHERS ALPHA & BETA of 3E

"We feel happy and we learnt to do our ties. Beta can do his tie faster than me but I will beat him later."

SO CHE HIM of 3D

RONNIE of 3C

The P.1 students were a bit shy to talk. It is their first day afterall! They feel quite nervous now but I'm sure they will catch on very quickly.
